A dated Dallas formal living room with old-world character needed some major TLC. In the quest to transform the space into a more elegant great room, the main walls were painted a lighter color to cut down on the overwhelming amount of golden tan throughout the house. While the existing floors and ceiling treatment stayed the same, a slight glaze was also added over the fireplace stone to lighten it and blend with the new paint color.
The grand room felt empty and was lacking color. While needing to keep the existing sofa, we added more furniture to help fill the space and add functionality. Two separate seating areas are anchored by one large custom rug. One seating area is set around the fireplace, while the other functions as a conversational and game area with swivel chairs and a half sofa.
Large scale art and custom permanent floral arrangements above the fireplace, along with bold, blue decorative drapery, help to balance out the vertical space by bringing the eyes up and filing in the negative space. Vibrant accents of color were brought in with additional art, pillows, and accessories and hints of gold throughout the room add a bit of glamour to dress the space up!
Heavy, traditional furniture was done away with to transform this dining room into a beautiful and elegant space. The dark gold tones in the existing drapery and ceiling treatment were softened with a palette of cream and blue, while the walls and columns were lightened to a more updated neutral tone. A sleek dining table surrounded with beautiful chairs is anchored by a light blue rug. The focal wall features abstract art with accents of gold leaf, flanked by two fabulous mirrors with decorative stone and metallic details. The large sideboard below offers a more contemporary touch to the room and is topped with tall buffet lamps of acrylic with gold edging. Capping off the room like a shimmering crown, a gorgeous light fixture of glass leaves sparkles and adds a touch of drama!
