Did you know that Ellen is a BIG fan of custom furniture? Well she is and this was the whole idea behind her new successful show, Ellen’s Design Show. The six furniture designers have 48 hours to complete a task and some of the design ideas they come up with are quite unique. Each challenge was made to have the most original design ideas come out as possible and boy did they ever. As Interior Designers ourselves, this show is a fun one to watch. Custom furniture is common place for us designers as each space and client are unique and require it’s own touch.
Last weeks episode was an interesting one when the contestants were given the option to pick a dining chair of their liking and were in turn supposed to build a table in 48 hours that would work with their dining chair. What is your favorite?
Jose Gasper de Jesus chose the black acrylic chair with light wooden legs. He built a clever dining table with a tree base and limbs that can be seen over top the table through the acrylic table top.
Tim McClellan’s chair was an inexpensive white plastic chair. He took the curve from the base of his chair and carried that into the base of his table to add a little more visual interest.
Katie Stout picked the “ghost” chair and was trying to create something with a black and white effect. She ended up creating a dining table that resembled something more like a cow. It looks like she went with that look and carried it into the base of her floral arrangement?
Lastly, Carley Eisenberg picked a more shabby chic gray washed dining chair. Her dining table concept was to split her wood and create a river type effect running down the middle.
No matter what your preference is, there is no doubt that these designers have some talent and creativity! Tune in on Monday evenings on HGTV to see more of these designers creations!
