Inspired by Baker Design Group Interior Designer Jessica Warren’s work in a Dallas home that are reminiscent of the Hill Country, we can’t shake thoughts of bluebonnets, BBQ, and getting away to slow down to enjoy the gently undulating countryside on a two-lane road.
Whether or not you will make it to the Texas Hill County this season, we’ll show you how we transformed a suburban Dallas home into a retreat that feels farther from the tollway than it does a ranch entry gate built with Austin white limestone. We’ll also share highlights from Southern Living’s favorite Hill Country Adventures (just in case).
We live many days in between our vacations; because of this, we believe a home should be an escape at the end of each “normal” day. A beautiful and well-functioning home can be a delight to live in day-to-day and be a relief to return to after even after the most impressive vacations.
Walking into this large, lofty space with its hand scraped floors and vaulted wood ceiling, one feels immediately transported to a relaxing, rustic home in the heart of Texas. This inviting entry way immediately welcomes and sets the tone of the home, as there is no formal entry.

A perfect day in the Fredericksburg area: After antiquing in old downtown Fredericksburg, escape the crowds by taking a short drive to Comfort, Texas to enjoy stone architecture by acclaimed architect Alfred Giles, more quaint shops, and a plate of High-Lupa Chalupa from High’s Cafe & Store. Afterwards, visit Marburger Orchard and pick from 13 varieties of peaches that ripen in stags until early August. Bring the juiciest picks up to the top of Enchanted Rock (pictured at beginning of post) to catch the sunset and reward yourself for the .5 mile hike.
Back in Dallas: two separate seating areas help to divide the room and create more intimate and purposeful spaces. The entry way seating area as a welcoming focal point, and the second as a place to be entertained. We designed both spaces keeping in mind that the client wanted this large room to feel homey and intimate, while also not feeling entirely centered on the television.
Beginning in Mid-May, entertain your eyes and nose in Blanco- the Lavender Capital of Texas. The 12th annual Lavender festival is from June 10-12 this year.
Afterwards, stay at Linda’s favorite Inn outside of Austin. She says that “the Sage Hill Inn Above Onion Creek is a sanctuary like no other! It is tranquil and peaceful. We love the walking trails dotted with swings and hammocks and bird watching opportunities. It is a such a special treat to be nestled in the beautiful Texas Hill Country without a care in the world, as you truly get lost in the beauty, scrumptious food, the unique touches in each room or house and the ability to just forget about the world in a 5 star B&B. Ahhhhh.”
Warm-toned leathers and plaids, mixed with rustic wood finishes and metal accents, give the room a cozy and masculine palette that is classic and timeless with an overall clean yet traditional style that suited the updated rustic look that the client desired in his interior design.
