Quintuple? (That’s right, we had to look it up). We are thrilled to share the exciting news that Baker Design Group was honored with five ASID Design Ovation Awards last week. The Dallas Design Ovation Ceremony recognizes the finest interior design achievements within the Dallas Design Community. We were provided the opportunity to submit several of our highlighted projects of 2015 for judging, and are so honored to be recognized with the best in Dallas through these awards.

Your home could be a spotlight project for 2016!
Ready for a fresh look and more practical layout for their lifestyle, this couple set sights on building an open floor-plan without wasted spaces. With the updated feel of gray washed wood floor spanning the first floor, a transitional feel is laid from ground up. Soft taupe grays call for a mix of warm and cool tones throughout. A tailored white kitchen is set off by a slate blue island and contrasting white and gray counters. Custom window treatments and barstools tie in some golds and ivories that play across into the family room where white split-face stone reflects the dazzling adjacent kitchen. Mixed metallic finishes in light fixtures and furniture bring a sense of sophistication. A hand applied silver leaf powder bathroom creates a jewel box for guests to primp. Grand ceilings in the master bedroom and great room flow with panels of drapery to the floors, adding texture and color all throughout.
With a love for wine country and entertaining, a Wine Room is the perfect greeting off this couple’s new home entry for family and guests alike. A striking hand-painted wall brings texture and detail to the back wall featuring cascades of wine selections displayed artfully. Mid-century chairs offer a sleek ivory leather punch, perfectly accented by warm wood sculptural bases and brassy nail-head, calling to other warm metallics throughout the space. Prop your feet up on a custom ottoman cocktail table, grounding the conversation with its intricate monochromatic upholstery. Light dances above from an iron chandelier mixing antique mirror pieces and champagne gold finish, while casting artistic shadows across the ceiling. A striking cabinet anchors crystal and brass accent lamps bouncing light from a collection of antiqued mirrors. The perfect mix of warm and cool, metallic and natural, immediately sends you back to old Hollywood with a Pinot in hand.

This Master retreat started as a monochromatic beige canvas that is all too familiar with most home buyers. The client’s hope was to create a masculine retreat with modern, edgy touches, as well as more rustic elements that would tie this room in with the overall character of the home. Soft tones of slate and cream blend beautifully with warm brown and black tones to create a soothing, masculine palette. The sleek architectural lines of the furniture, along with textured wall paper on the accent wall and recessed ceiling, help to bring in edgy aspects to the space. The warm leathers and plaids of the bedding add to the rustic ambiance, while antiqued mirrors and warm metal accents add to the versatile textures of the room. Finally, casual window treatments help to frame out the room and several different layers of lighting set the mood in this Master retreat.
Modern city vibes accompanied this family on their move out to the suburbs. This open floorplan just needed a facelift, from removing paneling and dated fireplace surround to stripping out too many flooring types for a rich continuous dark wood floor. With fresh taupe-gray paint on the walls and crisp white cabinetry, the stage is set for grays, both deep and soft, to mix with white and a pop of vibrant yellow. Bold geometric patterns run down family-friendly swivel chairs, across flexible seating ottomans and sofa throw pillows, while large-scale statement Ikat fabric brings the entire color palette to fruition through accent lounge seating. Nickel and silver-leaf sparkle around the room in lighting, art and accessories, punctuated by black iron and gray concrete in a console table and floor lamp to truly bring the urban feel to life without compromising a luxe designer finish.
Moving from the hustle of the heart of the city to suburbia, this young family wanted to bring that clean urban aesthetic with them. Old-school blonde wood, dated wallpaper, and an ill-functioning layout were stripped away for a fresh start. Floor to ceiling cabinetry intentionally fills the space with both practical storage and beautiful display space. An oversized island anchors the kitchen with a grey-veined white quartz atop striking city-steel blue cabinetry. Custom bar stools mix faux leather and subtle pattern to bring both utilitarianism and artistry. Stacked Carrera backsplash contrasts with deep gray quartz and sets off stainless appliances. Industrial meets mid-century in both the island and breakfast lighting to bring sculptural elements boasting black finishes. Pops of dusty blues bring extra spunk to continued gray in the table and chairs. A built-in hutch is brought back to life with fresh paint and contrasting display for a statement look to truly bring this remodeled kitchen into its own.
