A Tribute to my Daughter:
Time flies as we all know, and the past 10 years have been no exception. In that 10 years I have had the privilege and blessing to work alongside my daughter at our firm Baker Design Group. My precious daughter, Heather, after having her first child, made a decision to get out of the “Corporate” world and come alongside me in the design world to give her family more flexibility back in 2007. She was willing to do anything and everything to earn her respect in the BDG firm not knowing how it would all play out. It has now been 10 years and three months, but who is counting right! Now it’s time for me to tell her how much I have appreciated all she has done by my side, as truly only someone that loves you with all their heart.
Heather and I are very different in our talents and approaches to life. Sometimes it has had its challenges, I will admit. Adding the Mother/Daughter dynamics adds a whole new layer to working through conflict to resolution, sometimes at the expense of our personal relationship, even if it has been only for short periods of time. But, we have grown so much throughout the process of time, listening, resolution, forgiveness and ultimately respecting each other’s God-given talents.
Heather has blossomed over the past several years spear-heading and creating the Baker Design Group brand. Yes she found her “Passion” and her unique ability to give us a product that we are supremely proud of with the hours of time she dedicates to understanding all the analytics behind the ultimate seen product. Her analytical side, and believe me I have little to offer on this, has proven to be the companion to the overall design appearance we have within Social Media. The Baker Design Group Website is a constant praise by our clients and associates, including the Social Media and Marketing Pieces we are tirelessly working on to best represent in an industry where everything makes a first impression.
In addition, Heather came to me about three years ago and asked to take over one of our growing sectors of Baker Design Group Christmas Business. This was a relief to me as this has grown so much over the years, and it was becoming clear that I needed more help and vision to move us to the next level. Heather brought it up to a whole new level with her impeccable organization and attention to detail. Since then we have done three of our biggest jobs ever with Heather’s leadership, including a large out of state Casino and Hotel, Grapevine Convention and Visitor’s Center and Real Page. This year Heather is also spear-heading the Omni Star Hotel in Frisco which promises to be one of the most spectacular Christmas designs we have ever created.
To be utterly real and honest, no one has my back like my daughter. I have seen her handle conflict when things were not going right for me; I have seen her hurt for me and do whatever it took to get issues resolved. Many times trusting and with great Faith, but nevertheless, responding on her Mom’s behalf. Regardless of circumstances, Heather has always put BDG first, in turn showing me she puts her Mom and Family first, more than anyone truly knows. I also have the GREAT GIFT of doing life with her every week!
It goes without saying that sometimes our families don’t always get acknowledged the way they truly deserve and I must admit that I could do a better job of this as time takes over, but without any doubt Heather has made such significant contributions to where our company is in 2017 that I just had to say how proud I am of her and her exquisite talents and her passion for BDG and for her Mom.
I could go on and on about how much she means to me and how much she has truly made Baker Design Group a leader in our industry by her great talent; but, in the hopes of not droning on and on like a proud Mom, please take a moment to see a kaleidoscope of the years we have spent together and hoping there are many more in the Lord’s Plan for us.
Happy “10 Years” Heather and to many more!
Love,
Your Mom (aka Linda)
