Fireplace Design Trends for 2020

If there is one thing that is consistent throughout different style of homes, it’s fireplaces.  It is almost always an element in Baker Design Group’s Dallas interior design projects and is a great focal point for any space.  Of course, like all design elements, fireplaces evolve.  Over the past few years, modern gas fireplaces have replaced traditional wood-burning models, and technology continues to break down design obstacles.

The quality of glass that encloses a fireplace has definitely improved.  Not only is it more beautiful to look at, it also keeps the heat and air from escaping, improving the efficiency of the fireplace.  Of course, glass gets hot, and that’s why there must be some sort of heat barrier.  In the past, safety screens have blocked the views and distracted from the clean design of a beautiful fireplace.  Fortunately, protective barriers have continued to improve as technology progresses.

Classic modern styles have the simplicity that shows itself today in fireplaces that utilize a clean, sophisticated design in place of extensive design. Modern materials often include steel and glass, but they can also make use of woods, marbles and other simple materials.

Today’s modern-contemporary gas fireplaces have stylized flames surrounded by colored glass and metal.  They offer many of the same benefits of traditional style fireplaces, but with a totally different look.  Modern-contemporary styled fireplaces are pushing interior design boundaries while still incorporating both function and beauty.  It’s simply a different kind of beauty added into your own space.

The materials available for stacked rock fireplaces are endless.  These stunning designs can be made up of marble, limestone, and many more.  By stacking the rock, this provides a lot more choices in the interior design process.  Because of the extensive variety of colors available in different stone types, a stacked rock fireplace can perfectly match a room’s current color scheme, or it can become the focal point of a room’s new color combination.  And best of all, stacked rock fireplaces immediately make any room feel cozier.

Another popular trend in fireplaces is using hands-on techniques.  Each hand-crafted fireplace is unique because it is built piece by piece.  One popular hand-crafted option is the added touch of customized iron doors and screens.  This allows you to choose something that is unique to you.  Our designers love selecting from colors like brushed silver, gold or bronze.

Fireplaces with classic designs with decorative finishes can seem overdone in some homes.  But a contemporary spin on a classic look is very popular in newer homes.  It tones down some embellishments while still showing the classic look.

Whether you choose to jump on a trend or opt for a classic fireplace, you can’t go wrong with either.  They add instant appeal and visual interest to any space and home.  To discuss your options with a designer, contact Baker Design Group today!
