2020 BDG Designer’s Top Design Trends

We have not only entered a new year but a new decade.  One thing we all know for sure is that the modern home and how people choose to live in it will constantly be changing.  To get an idea of what’s to come, our talented Dallas designers browsed past and current home design photos, scrolled through the latest Houzz inspiration and looked at past articles to create a snapshot of home design trends we think will excite homeowners and potential design clients in 2020 and moving forward.

Follow along as we look at the top 10 design trends that Baker Design Group will be using this year.

Trend #1: Mixed metal on faucets

To make a statement in specialty areas, our Dallas designers love mixing metals on plumbing fixtures to make sure they are just as much an art piece as the hardware, the lighting and all of the surrounding surfaces.  Black with gold or brass is a favorite combo in our new 2020 construction projects.

Trend #2: Walk in showers

Recently, a personal preference for some homeowners to remodel their master baths is to create larger walk in showers and ditch the bath tub altogether.  As long as there are other tubs in the house for resale or multi-function, our designers are up for the task!

Trend #3: Fully wrapped powders

Any opportunity to bring a bold statement to the jewel box powder bathrooms through wall paper or paint treatments, our designers jump on it.  This nook of guest space is a great opportunity to splash some personality, not just accent a little piece of it.

Trend #4: Shower ledges

In new construction, our designers still encounter some areas where a recessed niche is not the best solution and so, we have started implementing shower ledges for a clean but functional look.

Trend #5: Slabs (as a back splash)

Slabs as a back splash can be a great way to add a striking visual statement to your kitchen or bathroom.  Our Dallas designers love that slabs cut down on grout lines.  It is always easy to clean and creates an overall sleek look for the eye.

Trend #6: Oversize statement pendants

Lighting has a very big impact on the overall aesthetic of a room.  Pendants are often the focal point and can add so much character to any residential or commercial space.

Trend #7: Blue cabinets

The BDG designers have been loving this trend for some time.  Blue is such a classic color and can look great with so many different styles.  It also helps to break up too much white or stained cabinetry.

Trend #8: Multi-functional island centers

Who wouldn’t want a more functional kitchen?!  Our designers are currently working on a new project where the kitchen island was remodeled to accommodate a microwave and spice drawer, along with the already existing dishwasher.  The trash drawer was also reconfigured to better fit a trash and recycling container.

Trend #9: A seat in the bathroom that’s not the toilet

Our designers often see more and more clients request somewhere to sit in their bathrooms.  It just makes sense that a seat can come in handy.  We’re not talking full-size chairs here though, usually a small ottoman or stool that is much more comfortable than trying to sit on the edge of the tub.

Trend #10: Dining rooms with personality

While many family meals are had at informal spots near or in the kitchen, dining rooms are thriving for special occasions.  Our designers find that specialness opens up opportunities to inject lots of personality through color, pattern, lighting and more that might not fit within the context of the style found elsewhere in the home.

Now it is your turn!!  Which of the above trends are you excited about?!  What did we miss?  Please leave your thoughts in the comments section below!  If you are looking to make any of these trend updates to your home, give Baker Design Group a call today at (972) 417-3800 or visit our website for more information.  Our Dallas designers are eager to work with you and transform your space!
